Third Trip to Haiti (Day 1)

In 2014 I had the opportunity to go to Haiti for the first time with my mom and older sister, Priscilla. I loved the experience: much more than I thought I would. The next April, I went again with Mom and my younger sister, Bethany. I was able to speak about the importance of God's Word at a women's conference. The following year, God did not open the door for me to go again.

Finally this year, I decided I really wanted to go back again. I told my mom and Dad that I wanted to go, but Mom thought it was already too late to tell the team leader, so I tried to forget about it. Then we had the team leader, Barbara, over for lunch one day in February, and I asked her if it was too late. She said no and really wanted me to be able to come. I got really excited about going. After she left, I went to get the mail and there was a letter from my sign language teacher telling my mom that she was refunding my class to give the money toward my next missions trip. It seemed very clear to me that God wanted me to go.

Over the next weekend, I talked a lot to my parents and God about the decision because Barbara needed to know by Sunday. Finally the decision was made that I would be able to go even though Mom was not able to go. Over the next month and a half or so, I prepared for the trip. I was so excited, I could hardly contain myself at times.

Finally Monday, April 3rd arrived. After going to urgent care for a weird situation with my thumb and arm, Mom brought me to Barbara's house to spend the night with her because we had to get up early the next morning. Tuesday morning, Barbara's husband brought us along with another team member, Beth to the airport. We were joined with a young couple, Kendal and Erica. I was finally on my way.

We flew into Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, and a driver came to pick us up. We finally arrived safely to our guest house, My Father's Guest House.

It's hard to see in the picture, but my thumb looked like it was bruised and my whole arm ached at times. I'll probably never know what caused it, but the next day it was all better.

More to come!
