Little Stories

We have an old tradition among us girls that dates back to several years ago. We sit at the kitchen bar with some kind of drink and look at books and take pictures of us doing that. Usually the books are big. There have been a huge variety of books represented during one of these times, from science books to car books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, poetry books, commentaries, etc. We try to act dramatic or like we're really into our book. Fact is that we usually do end up getting quite interested in whatever we're "reading."

One day I came home from a trip to TN, and guess what I saw? Yep, a wind pump organ! I had known about the possibility of Lydia acquiring a free one before I left, but I had sort of forgotten about it. I have a real fascination for these things, so I was quite overjoyed to find this beauty sitting in our old school room (it's more like a music room now).

That is hot tea with cream of some sort, a bit of chocolate, and a leaf. The leaf has nothing to do with anything, but the tea and chocolate have everything to do with everything. Did you know that dipping dark chocolate into hot tea and then licking off the melted part is so delicious? Well, now you know. I took that particular mug outside one afternoon and enjoyed the relics on the stupe. Lydia joined me, and we had a relaxed moment out there.

Art. That's kind of the goal of my photography lately. I just don't carry my camera around much these days, so when I want to take a picture, I'm looking for something in particular. I saw this leaf dangling in the sunshine and decided to capture it in a way that made it really stand out. The blackness is just the dark foliage and trees behind it that didn't have sun.

In January or something, I got me a smartphone for the first time ever. That's the BLU phone on the right. Well, the plan and phone itself hasn't been great, but I deal with it. Anyway, a very nice person decided I needed an iPhone. It's a super nice phone. I never dreamed of having such a nice phone. The camera is super great, too. Well, now I have three phones. That's awesome.

This is a shot I took with the iPhone of a bee on a mimosa blossom. The picture doesn't look as good here as it does on the phone. Oh, well. Anyway, I love mimosa trees. They have such cool flowers, which smell so good. They are blooming everywhere right now, and they are so exotic.

Well, that's all I got for today.

House of Dreams

A slightly edited, horrible phone picture.

A lot of Easters ago, our family went on our signature Easter truck ride and ended up at this little old farm house. To me, it was something of a dream house. The surrounding farm land was superbly beautiful, and it was so peaceful and alone. I wanted it as my own.

One of my dreams as a child/teenager was to have a nice farm, grow a big family, and never leave. Of course, I had wanted to be a missionary for a long time, too, but there were moments when that farm dream seemed so lovely.

Sittin' out on that porch on that springy afternoon, I was thinking about owning a farm some day. We continued on our adventures, but that farm house stayed in my heart. I looked for it for years (I forgot what road it was on).

Just recently, I ended up driving down that old, curvy road, and there was the house. Still nestled among glorious old oaks, the little place was for sale. I thought about how wonderful it would be to live there, raise a kit and caboodle of kids, have some cows, settle down till the day I died in my rocking chair. But, I know that is just a dream. I suppose some dreams will never come true.

So, after snapping a poor-quality phone picture for old-time's sake, I drove away. Away from an old farm house on a hill, away from an old dream that will probably never completely leave me.

The original. Nostalgia.

Mainly Moss

As you may be well aware, I have a thing for moss. Anyway, I think I've said that a million times. But, yeah, just some little relics that interested me one day.

Moss in a bottle. I think it's fascinating.

A spider in a bottle: even more fascinating.

Lots of bottles with moss and sun is also very cool. I really like bottles.

Sea shells add to my homey decor at my house in the woods.

Also, a tea cup because what's a kitchen without a tea cup?

Summer feet in summer moss. What more can I say? It's bliss. Simply bliss. I don't know why feet have always fascinated me so much.

A miniature garden in an old plastic pot.

Wow!
Sorry. That just came out better than I thought. I guess my pictures impress me sometimes. I don't care too much whether or not they impress you. As long as I can be proud of my work, I suppose it don't matter too much what the other people say.

Mmm! Lovely stuff.

And I end with this funny little lichen I found in Micah's Garden.

Flowers in June

Here are some flower pictures because I love flowers, and there are a lot of them blooming in our yard these days. Whoever thinks spring is the only time for flowers doesn't know much. Oh, wait, I guess It's still spring. Haha!
