Frankfort (A Trip in November)

One week, a couple of months ago, Jacob was feeling very overwhelmed with school and life. I said I would give him a day to himself, and I would take the kids on a little day trip. Being the amazing husband that he, he really didn't want to let me let him have a day off, but I insisted. I had been wanting to visit our state capital of Frankfort, which is a quaint little town about an hour east of us. This seemed like a great opportunity for Jacob to have some peace and for me to see what it was like to do something alone with the kids. It actually turned out to be quite a fun little outing, and it got me excited for many future fieldtrips with my kids as they get older.

The capital building was getting worked on, but it was still quite magnificent.

Looking out in front of it.

We walked down to the river and saw a train on the other side. We're huge fans of trains.

We had delicious sandwiches for lunch at a playground.

We had to cross the river (Kentucky River, I think) to get the main town.

The sky was clearing up, and it was turning out to be quite a lovely day.

This is the old capital building.

A giant Christmas tree.

We (mainly I) did a lot of walking that day.

We stopped at a coffee shop for a break (and a bathroom).

The govenor's mansion.
