Our Bedroom Art

I'm still sick, but I get along just fine.

Today I'd like to show you the art in our bedroom.

The view out our window.

The heron above our bed.

Great blue herons are among my favorite birds.

I painted this eagle for Jacob for his birthday last year, but recently I touched it up because it was looking sort of dull.

It's across from the heron, hanging above the desk.

And Jacob's masterpiece, a plant from Indonessia.

Hanging above our clothes.

All the pictures have dark green. Now I am planning to eventually add two more that have both dark green and red so they all kind of match with Jacob's picture.

Sick as a Dog

I woke up with a soar throat yesterday, and it just got worse and worse throughout the day. I was so sick by the end, that I could hardly put Taliya to bed. I must have had a fever because I was so cold and achy and shaky. I didn't sleep too well. I was so sweaty because I think my fever was melting off. It's amazing how a fever can make you feel so downright awful. I feel so much better today, more like I just have a cold. It's annoying, but I'm not dying.

I'm sure you wanted to hear all about my sickness. That's just life, man.

Here's a random picture of tiny Taliya. I thought you'd rather see a baby picture than a sad picture of sick me.

Sockey

I was looking back on a post from years ago in which I alluded to a game we used to play a lot called sockey. I said I would have to do a post about it. Well, it seems I forgot, and so I decided it would be fun to tell you about this fun and dangerous game.

We came up with this game one time when we were bored and had a fun ball we were playing with (that ball ended up proving to be too weak for this violent sport). It's a mix between soccer (the ball and goals) and hockey (the use of a sticdk to get the ball where you want it), hence the name, sockey (which, at the time, I did not know was the name of an alcohol). The difference between either of the namesake games is that sockey is played on a man-to-man level instead of team-to-team. That means everyone has their own goal that they try to keep the ball from going into. Once the ball goes through your goal 3 times, you're out. So, the last person alive wins.

The game soon became popular with the neighbors. It gets violent because it can be chaotic with all the people running around and wacking their sticks at the ball. I certainly had my share of wacked fingers and legs. We later played the game with another family full of younger kids. I think their mom finally outlawed it because of all the injuries. Haha! I don't blame her, but it sure was a fun time.

Well, that's sockey for you. Ready for a game? I honestly wouldn't mind playing myself. Maybe I can get Jacob's classmates to play. Haha! The school might outlaw it.

Here's a simple diagram and instructions on how to play.

We introduce Jacob to Sockey.

The first time Jacob visited us in NC, we played an exciting game of sockey. Dad took pictures of us.

Fun times, good memories.

Adios!

Something Wet

Very wet.

It has been raining a ton this morning. There was big lightning and thunder, too. Apparently, our yard turns into a little pond when it rains.

Growing Up

I sit here on the edge of Jacob's black desk, trying to write a quick post before dinner.

Life changes as you get older. Some things are harder, or at least more complicated, but overall, I think life just keeps getting better. As I get older, I have more responsibilities, and I like that. I like that I have to make sure there are dinner plans every night. I like cleaning my home and making it a nice place to be. I like taking care of my baby and be a helper to my husband. I like grocery shopping and making lunch for Jacob for work. These are good things God has given me to do. I'm happy when I stay busy with work.

I have the chili and rice cooking on the stove.

The colorful Christmas lights add cheer to the house.

And, I stay cozy in my Looney Tunes sweat shirt. In some ways I haven't grown up. : )
