Trying to Embrace the Last of Summer

I've been trying to really enjoy the last warm days. This was one of my last solo creek trips.

All the late summer flowers were blooming so brightly.

Peace out summer!

Cumberland Gap

In February we went to Middlesboro, a little town in the very southeastern corner of Kentucky, right be Cumbrland Gap. We liked it a lot. For Labor Day we went there again, and Mom, Dad, and Lydia met up with us.

We had a neat view from our hotel room.

We hiked up to the Tennessee-Virginia-Kentucky point.

I think this is mainly looking toward TN.

That's Kentucky.

We drove to nearly the top of the mountain to see this amazing view.

Even Jacob, who's been to the Rockies, had to admit this was pretty cool.

Then we walked around the little town of Cumberland Gap.

Apparently, this was an old train tunnel.

This train track is still in use. I had to check out the tunnel.

It was freakishly dark in there. I felt uncomfortable even standing in the entrance.

The next day we did another hike up a big rock.

The views weren't quite as expansive, but they were still very beautiful.

Mom took this picture of us.

Random Pictures from August and September

I continue to catch up on all these pictures. These are all mixed up and nothing in particular. Hope you enjoy.

I think I did the three top pictures all in the month of August. I was on a roll. I haven't done anything since. : (

One of those rare moments when both of the kids are quietly looking at books.

A stroller run.

The kids and I explored a desserted house. This was the outhouse.

Look at this old toilet.

I love having flowers in the house.

I planted flax late in the summer, and they have such dainty little flowers.

My cayenne peppers grow to be all shapes and sizes.

Walking back home from the library.

My first suculent. We'll see how long I can keep it alive.

Some pretty weeds.

Working on some new shirts.

And that's that.
Happy Sunday!
