Middlesboro and Another Little Hike

We got a hotel in Middlesboro, KY. The next day we walked around town and then took another little hike up the mountains along the Cumberland Gap. I say "little" because most people would call them little, but for us carrying two kids up with us, it's a little more difficult.

The little town of Middlesboro is quaint and homey. It is completely surrounded by moutains. We also figure it's a lot more busy in the summer due to tourism in the Cumberland Gap area. Since the weather turned out lovely, we didn't mind being there in the winter.

We were trying to figure out what this desserted building used to be. There are trees growing out of it, so it must have been desserted quite a while ago.

Onto our hike.

Once again, another amazing view of the surrounding mountains.

We took some pictures.

I especially liked this picture of Micah looking like such a cute little adventurer.

The sky was so blue and the sun so bright and cheery.

Well, that sure was a nice little trip. Who knows where we'll end up next?

Chained Rock

This past weekend, we took a little trip to the mountains in the east. It was really nice to finally get out of the city and be in the fresh mountain air. On our way to our final destination, we stopped at Chained Rock, and took a short hike to a cool spot over the small town below.

The winter trees make the hills look all fuzzy.

I don't think there was really any purpose for the chain other than some tradition.

You can't tell in the pictures, but some of the pathways were actually quite treturous, at least with two little kids.

Looking further east toward Cumberland Gap, where we went the next day.

The Middle of February

I found this Hobby Lobby-like plaque for free and decided to turn it into real art.

It turned out a little darker than I had originally planned, but I still like it.

Micah with his milk

A bunch of flour tortilla chips.

A couple of lovers.

Taliya was sweetly patting Micah's head.

The warm days did not last. We got snow again and again.

Valentine's Day

Micah with his milk and a gun.

Micah running around like a crazy redneck during one of our dance parties.

And more snow.

We went to Cabela's. It was as crazy as Jacob had described to me. Stuffed dead animals all over the walls and this big fish tank.
It's hard to get good pictures because the lighting is weird, but in real life, it was a very fun experience.

They even had a polar bear.

The weather has recently gotten very lovely again.

Warm Days of Early February

February started off quite warm compared to the freezing days of January. Of course, that didn't last and it's cold again. But we sure did enjoy those warmer days. I can't wait until spring.

An evening walk from the library. All I needed was a sweatshirt.

The kids enjoying the warm sunshine on the balcony.

I love living by the railroad. One afternoon I was very close to this moving train. It was very invigorating, if not a tad bit scary.

All of the snow in January did stay for an entire month. I've never experienced something like that since Minneapolis.

Signs of spring.

I was overjoyed to find these small flowers.

A simple stained glass style picture.
